Neither. The problem is in the mirror damping mechanism, a geartrain and flywheel located on the right hand side of the mirror box below the shutter release (or thereabouts). This can be reached from above after removing the top cover, but you can't really see where you're going so it helps if you've seen one disassembled or have drawings. If you reach the right point with a needle oiler, the squeak goes away.
