The Canon AE-1 is a very good camera, but all cameras need a good cleaning and adjustment every now and then. I agree with John about sending it off and having it serviced. $48.00 is cheap for what you get. It should last you for many years, but you need to do a little studying to be able to get the most out of your AE-1.
It's a much better camera than you can buy new today.
