I too have been in search of a new mail order photo developing as I have been a Mystic customerfor 15 years and was rarely disappointed, however when I did have a problem, it was swiftly resolved and customer service was TOP NOTCH.
I have used local developers our Wal-Mart has great service and I can get Matte Prints as well as photos on CD at the one hour.
I also do alot of digital uploading to a site Clubphoto.com and discovered that they also have film developing with an upload. I received my first order back and was impressed! When I am on vacation I do not like to carry my film around, prefer to pop into a mailer and know that when I get home it will be there, that is a big reason why I tried Clubphoto.
I have friends who use snapfish.com, price is low however you HAVE to give them a credit card and I would reather not do that and I have the option with Clubphoto of credit card or sending a check and I have done both.
But as a long standing Mystic customer and Connecticut resident, I do know that it was not highly publicized that they were bought, just a short blerp on the news.
