If the camera doesn't have a hotshoe or PC connection you will have to use an external flash in conjunction with a slave. Many digitals have a pre-flash, but most have a setting to disable pre-flash. You will have to connect the flash to the camera using a flash bracket that screws to your tripod mount. Any powerful flash made for standard 35mm cameras should be fine for use.
