It depends on what rangefinder (not SLR) camera you get. I have a new Voigtlander Bessa that uses Leica lenses. Its viewfinder is brighter than most SLR cameras. I find it much easier to focus than my M/F SLR cameras. Don't think for a moment that a rangefinder is a substitute for an SLR, it isn't in my oppinion. There is a lot more to take into consideration than ease of focus. With a rangefinder camera you are limited to lenses not over 135mm. Close-ups are limited (to say the least) when using a rangefinder. Otherwise an SLR camera will offer much more covenience and accessories than a rangefinder camera. On the otherhand my rangefinder is much more compact and easier to lug around than one of my SLRs. The rangefinder is coupled to work with a 35mm, 50mm, 75mm, and a 90mm. Anything else needs to have an external viewfinder on the accessory shoe for accurate viewing. I have all these focal lengths, but generally just use the 50mm. Actually I enjoy the rangefinder camera more than the SLR, but I would give up the rangefinder camera if I had to chose between it and an SLR.
