First, my thanks to those folks who are providing us with such a great forum and service. This is a great learning place.

Now, to my question: I recently was given an old Sony CCD-V8AF Camcorder which seems to be working ok, but I have no manual or instructions on it. I would like to connect it to my regular VHS VCR, but I do not see any Video/Audio output jack on the camcorder. The only output jack I see is a multipin jack named REMOTE. Is this the A/V jack?

If any of you folks have an instructions manual on this unit or can help me connect it to my VHS-VCR, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks -- Jaymes

James, If you contact me on mcginnmatthew @hotmail.com I can let you have the RFU-85 adapter that you need. I saved it from a dead Sony CCD-V8AF camcorder but have no use for it now. Regards, Matt

Editor's Note: Readers, Matt's offer was posted in February 2003. If you are reading this some months or years later, please don't contact him for something he has almost certainly already given away. That's why I have disabled his email address by putting a space in it.

Jaymes, If you look at the underside of the camera you will notice a sliding cover. This is where you need to plug in the Sony RFU adaptor, model no. RFU-85. The adaptor has line and RFU output connections. Finding the adaptor may be the hard part, though.... Best regards, Wim

well i just got one of these camcorders. That jack you talked about is for a remote only. There should be a little box that plugs in under the camera, it's for video in/out.

Can I shoot still pictures with my Sony CCD-V8AF Camcorder? I have the manual but it's kinda unclear. -- Jim

Editor's Note: You can always use a video capture device such as the Snappy (made by the now defunct Play Inc.) to capture high quality still images from video tape.
