The A1 uses a small solenoid/magnet to latch the mechanism after you have cocked the camera. When this part goes bad your camera will not stay cocked so it cannot release. The part may only need cleaning but it is possible it needs to be replaced. The A1 is a great camera and well worth the expensive to have it serviced by a professional.
