Help!
I am very much the dummy when it comes to photography, so please
bear with me. I do not have any interest in photography as a
business or hobby, I have one, and only one, use for a camera,
but it is a very specific one: I breed show cats as a hobby, and
I need to be able to take QUALITY close-up photos from 1-2 feet
away from the subject! I need to be able to operate the camera
quickly with one hand, and it must not be too noisy.
I am currently using an Olympus IS-10. This is an automatic camera with a 28-110mm zoom lense. I was told that it would be adequate for my purposes, but alas, it is not (Im not ruling out operator error.)
What I need to know is this: Should this camera be sufficient for my purpose, or do I need to get a better camera with an interchnageable lense? If so, what model? The Canon EOS 650 has come highly recommended. With this camera, I could get a specialized lense, correct? What particular sort of lense will I need?
Thank-you for taking the time to read this and offer
sugestions. They will be much appreciated.
Sincerely, Ameena L.

Your Olympus IS-10 camera has a minimum focusing distance of 2.5 feet. If you are shooting at 1 to 2 feet you are out of focus. Any of the Canon EOS cameras will suit your needs providing you use a lens that has macro (close focusing) capabilites. All EOS cameras have automatic modes which will allow you to operate with one hand (if you're right handed). Your camera dealer can recommend a lens for your EOS that will have macro focus. There are some short zooms that can focus close, and there are fixed focal lengths (50mm & 100mm). A 100mm lens is considered a good focal length for portraits, but wanting to be close you might want to get a 50mm macro. Also most standard (50-55mm) lenses focus to less than 2 feet.
