Other than profit, might there be some explanation as to why APS film processing is a lot more expensive than 35mm? One local supermarket which uses a lab owned by a film manufacturer, charges $4.99 for processing/printing a 24 exp. roll of 35mm, yet charges $10.99 for a 25 exp. roll of APS.
Due to the design of APS, it would seem like it would be easier to process/print a roll of APS, than it would a roll of 35mm.
