Many cameras using mercury cells suffer from rotten battery wires. Remove the bottom cover and, if possible, the battery compartment and check the wires and solder points. If a wire is loose or a solder point looks 'mouldy', cut off the old wire as far as possible and solder a new end of new wire. Isolate the solder point. Clean the solder point at the battery terminal and resolder wires.
