Before sending it off for repair, I would certainly try a new battery. If that doesn't work, it's off to the shop for servicing. Unless you're a qualified repairman, forget trying repair yourself. Try Garry's, he will only charge $45 (plus s/h) to service a Canon AE-1. Garry's Camera Repair
