On a recent ebay auction a Leica M3 with lens and meter sold for $950. It was described as follows:

No dents or dings. Top plate shows a few scuff marks. Meter functions normally and has a few scuff marks. Serial #954204. Also comes with a Leitz UVA filter. Due to age, item is sold AS IS. US Buyers only. Payment by US Postal Money Order. Buyer pays all shipping and handling.

JohnS,
Seems that it sold for a bargain price on eBay (you never know on eBay what you're getting). KEH wanted over $1700 for an M3 body (no lens) in ex+ condition.

Hi John, I guess you have to compare apples to apples in this. Buying off Ebay "as is no returns" is a little differant than buying off a good dealer who will back up the camera and give you a warranty. Many Ebay sellers have no overhead as they only exist "in the computer" no rents, employees or in many cases taxes to pay. So it depends a lot on your "comfort level" with used equipment. Hey guys--just wanted to bring him down to earth a little :). What do you think KEH paid?--maybe they were the ebay buyers :).

the price of an M3 will go up if you add in the "collectible stuff", the instruction manual, the receipt etc. You said it was a hard back manual. If it is the Morgan & Morgan Leica Manual, that alone may be worth $50-$75. Toss in a picture of your father on flight gear standing next to his aircraft and you could add $500 to the potential price. That would guarantee that this camera would go another 50 years without taking a picture. Such a shame really. -Paul

Editor's Note: the "picture of the (now deceased) father in flight gear is a priceless touch. ;-)
