I believe your best bet would be to use a transparency scanner. I use a "PrimeFilm 1800U" scanner, and get great results scanning slides. I've scanned hundreds of old slides and saved them on CDs. I've even reverted back to taking slides again (even though I have a high resolution digital camera). You will never obtain good enough resolution by copying slides with a digital camera or a regular scanner (with adapter). The PrimeFilm 1800U transparency scanner isn't the highest rated film/slide scanner out there, but it's probably the best value because of its affordable price.
