: I have a CoolPix 990, using a Wide Angle lens. I need a flash for inside work and the users manual says the internal and external flash are disabled when using this lens. Are there any other options?
I don't know about Nikon's 900 series, but I had a similar situation with the Coolpix 800 I used to have. The problem was, when you used a wide-angle auxillary lens it blocked the built-in flash. I solved this problem by using an external flash with a slave. The cameras automation worked well with this set-up. The flash was set on manual. Sunpak makes a flash for this purpose, and it has a built-in slave. My Nikon didn't have a hot-shoe, so I used a bracket that mounted to the tripod bushing. I've also done it the same way using an HP-912 and an Epson-3100Z. Adding auxillary w/a lenses to digitals will usually block the built-in flash, and in some cases the viewfinder too. I now have a "Sunpak Digital" flash w/built-in slave for this purpose.
