: I recently acquired an all-metal Braun D46J slide projector. It has a Rodenstock-Splendar 100mm f/2.8 lens and remote, and uses flat trays. Does anyone know something about this projector, dates of production, experience in use, etc.? Thanks very much.
:The Braun D-series of slide projectors were some of the finest quality 35mm slide manual-focus projectors ever made. Not usually found in A/V stores, they were usually sold in high-end camera shops and jewelry stores with camera departments. Designed by the famous Dieter Rams, the D series featured a clean Functionalist design with housing of pressure-cast aluminum and all-metal operating arms (no plastic), along with superb West German coated glass projection and condenser lens. Rodenstock A.G. makes glass loupes and large-format camera lens - they just don't get any better. Some earlier D46 models came with Will Wetzlar lenses, and an 85mm lens was also optional. The D 40, D 45, D 46 and D 47 were higher-end models with folding slide trays and more features; the D46 and D47 featured a cooler, brighter halogen bulb. Bulbs and trays are still available for these. Your D 46 projector was likely made around 1966-67.
