: I have recently taken up photography & am looking for another SLR camera to complement the Canon which I own.
: I have been informed of an advert offering the following:
: Praktica 35 MTL5B
: Auto Teleplus 2x
: 2-3x Auto Adaptor
: 2 Flashes
: Can anyone inform me if this is an SLR camera (I'm presuming so by the additional flashes) & if so, whether this is a reasonable camera. Also, is additional equipment easy to come by, as I will be looking to increase the equipment levels as my proficiency improves.
: Many thanks.

The MTL5B is a screw mount camera (also know as M42), and there must be millions of cheap screw mount lenses out there. It is not directly compatable with any Canon cameras. The camera was made in East Germany in the 1980's. Unlike most of the Prakticas which used the mercury PX 625 batteries, this one uses silver oxide SR 44 batteries or alkaline LR 44 batteries.
The M42 Prakticas are underrated cameras that need a battery only to run the lightmeter--all other functions are mechanical. You should be able to find one for under $50 (US). If you are interested to learn more about Prakticas join our group at:

I believe there is a manual posted for the MTL5B there.
But keep in mind if you want to use the lenses that were made for these cameras, you will have to use them with a converter on your Canon and you will likely lose a lot of camera functionality.
Best regards,
John
