The red and blue switch settings on the front correspond to the setting dial on the back. Look close and you'll see a red and blue mark. First you dial in the ASA of the film you are using, then reading either the red or blue mark on the dial will tell you what aperture to set on the cameras lens.
The choice of red or blue is simply a choice nothing more. Having a choice gives the photographer a little control over the depth of field. You'll also notice when reading the dial that the effective distance/range of red and blue is different. If that was greek to you then just set it to the one with the longest range.
