: An old "Bell & Howell Sixteen MM 240" projector camera recently fell into my lap. I am searching the internet for information about this camera, and would appreciate it if anyone could refer me to a useful website. Is it still possible to obtain film for the camera (I live in South Africa)? What projector does it need, and where would I be able to find one? Where can I find a manual for the camera (I have already consulted the manual-section of this website)? Any advice would be much appreciated.
There appear to be at least four versions of the Bell & Howell model 240: Bell & Howell Design 240-A, 240-T, 240-TA, 240-EE 16mm Movie Cameras.
Craig Camera sells an instruction manual for the cameras for $18 plus s&h http://www.craigcamera.com
16mm film can be purchased from dozens of places, it costs an arm and a leg to buy and is very expensive to process; when you consider that a hundred feet of film provides only a few minutes of moving pictures, you will understand why camcorders killed home movie cameras.
One guy seems to think the 240 is worth $500 - see http://www.mugjoint.com/media/ - personally I think he is dreaming - all of his prices are ridiculous. There's a very nice 16mm Bell & Howell movie camera (with multiple lenses) being auctioned on eBay right now - current bid is $99. Follow the bidding over the next 9 days. Search eBay for "Bell & Howell 70 dr 16mm movie camera"
