I'm afraid you might not like the answer, but I'll give it to you anyway. It's a sad fact of life nowadays that modern, electronicaly controlled AF cameras have a built in expiry date. Unless your problem can be solved with a change of battery, trash it. You have my sympathy - the same thing happened to my mother's do-everything Pentax not long ago.

I'm willing to bet that if it can be repaired at all - unlikely - the cost will exceed the price of an equivalent new camera.

This is how camera manufacturers make their living - bring a nice camera out that'll work for three years, just long enough for you to be pleased with it and loyal to the brand. Then, when it self destructs, you're supposed to buy another one with even MORE features!
