Small spots of fungus can be wiped off with household vinegar. The fungus spot will vanish like nothing as soon as you come near it with the q-tip.
Another problem is disassembling the lens. There is an article about SLR lenses on
http://www.kyphoto.com/classics
Next problem is to reassemble the lens without including too much dirt and dust. My method is as follows:
-Wipe away all dust particles with a very soft lens cleaning brush. The lenspen (see below) has one built-in.
-Clean all lens surfaces with soaked lens (or glasses) cleaning paper. DO NOT use dry lens cleaning paper!
-Clean off all dirt residues with that fabulous lenspen. There is also a smaller model, ideal for small lenses as they are found as inner elements.
-When you are holding the lens elements in your fingers (wearing cotton gloves), blow away any dust particles with compressed air just a few seconds before reassembling.
You still will see much more dust particles inside the lens than there were before, but usually they do not affect picture quality.
