: I have a Ricoh XR-P that sometimes will not set the
: shutter when advancing the film. The film continues
: to advance without stopping. I lose several frames
: on a roll. I have heard that this is a common problem
: with this model. Does anyone know what might cause
: this problem?
Mine also. I opened the bottom plate and found the problem was due to a lock located somewhere near the second/third layer of the mechanism occationally can't hold it's position after resetting the shutter.
I lubricated the mechanism with light oil, the problem seems fixed after 50 or so of test shots.
Just make sure you have enought mechanical knowledge if you want to fix it yourself. Be very careful.
I own my XR-P for sixteen years now and really loves it - large and bright viewfinder, dead accurate shutter, good lens (Rikenon 200mm/F4 and 50mm/f1.7, very sharp). This is the only problem I've got, but its very serious if not fixed.
