I am not a digital camera expert, but in surfing the web, the price your friend is charging, does not seem exorbitant. I've sent you a link where you can read more about the camera. Keep in mind that Olympus has come out with updated versions of the same model for $100 more and on up. Guess you have to decide whether warranties and updates ("latest new improved" model) are important, when you are dropping that many bills on a camera.
