Thats not quite how it works. You must set the flash according to
the scale on the back of your flash. It's easy:
1) Set the flash to one of its 'auto' modes
2) Dial in the ASA for the film you're using
3) Read the corresponding 'f' stop on the dial
4) Set your lens to that 'f' stop
Some flashes have several 'auto' modes, usually indicated by different color marks. So, set the auto switch to one of the colored marks, then read that same color on the 'f' stop dial to find the right 'f' stop to set the lens.

: Can I use my Canon AE-1 and sunpak flash and still have the camera set the lens opening, I mean putting it on "A". Will this work?
