Hi Kim
The Canon T-50 is a great little camera and you should find it easy and fun to use.
On lenses for it I might suggest two for you. A wide angle zoom (28-80) and a telephoto (80-200). These two cover nearly all shooting situations. I'd also recommend staying with the Canon brand, some of the others may be as good but none are better. The lens is what makes for a good sharp quality picture. The body just exposes the film for the required time, so don't go cheap on your lenses if you want good results.
The Canon FD lens mount is the same for all Canons until they went to autofocus, you can't use the AF's on your camera. The reallllly old lenses don't allow for auto exposure, so they won't work either on your camera.
Enjoy your new camera and have fun ;-) Welcome to the world of photography.
