: I purchased the N80 about a month ago and I've run into the same problem numerous times now. I have a Nikkor 35-70 2.8D and a Tamron 200-400 5.6D. What is happening is that I turn the camera on and the autofocus is nonresponsive. The only way I can get the autofocus to work is if I keep taking whichever lens I'm using off the mount and slipping it back on, each time turning the power off then on. I sometimes have to do this ten or more times before the autofocus kicks in. This is getting very frustrating, and I'm positive it's not user error! Anyone with feedback or similar problems, please advise. Thanks, Zep

There have been some reports on the earlier serial numbers on the N80 to freeze with off-brand lenses which seem to require more torque than Nikkors. Have it checked at Nikon. The problem has been resolved after such checks. Have a great time :-) JRP

I have a Nikon N80 with auto focusing problems with the Nikon 25-80 lens. It focuses incorrectly and lets you take the picture. It doesn't always happen, but often does on close-ups. It is not because of the several reasons mentioned in the booklet, and i cannot figure out why this is happening. anyone else having this problem? mllgroom@yahoo.com

Editor's Note: In the case of the Nikon purchased a month ago, local retailers will often exchange a defective camera in the first month as long as you haven't filled out the warranty cards. Of course, if you bought by mail order, the exchange policy is more difficult. If these cameras are still in the warranty period, by all means have an authorized Nikon service facility check them out.
