: I own a Canon EOS Rebel and just recently purchased an EOS IX. I have 2 Canon lenses (a 35-80mm zoom and a 80-200 zoom) and a Sigma 400mm. The 80-200 Canon zoom lens basically quit working - it will focus just fine, but as soon as you take a picture, the shutter closes and the camera locks up - the film indicator starts blinking - you have to open up the battery door and close it - then the shutter will release. The guy at Wolf Camera tried it on one of their cameras and basically told me Canon lenses were junk. I accepted this and basically put that lens on the shelf. Now I've been experiencing this same problem with the Sigma lens (although somewhat intermittently)- it happens on both cameras - yet I was with someone who had a Rebel G and the lens worked just fine. Any ideas???
Have had it happen to me once on my Rebel G. Took the batterys out and cleaned the battery contacts with a hard eraser. Then wiped them clean with a soft cloth. Ho problems since. Oil from the fingers seems to cause the problem when it is on the contacts of battery. May have to clean the contacts on camera with a Q-Tip with a little rubbing alcohol.
