I have a used Canon EOS 500 which worked fine initially but I have recently gotten back overexposed prints. I took it to a repair shop and they've told me there is a common problem with the curtain -- glue apparently seeps out of the bottom of the body and gums up the curtain, resulting in overexposed photos and the flash not working. After he looked at it seemed to work again, but he says the only real solution is to replace a part at a cost of about 65 USD. Does anyone know if this is indeed a glitch in the camera and if this seems like a reasonable repair? I asked about just cleaning it, but he said it would not solve the problem.

Thanks in advance for any help. Please reply to dnd100@hotmail.com if possible.

Editor's Note: Take the camera to another repair shop and get a second opinion. Don't mention what the first camera repair technician said was wrong. The problem I'm having is the price is far too low for bonafide shutter curtain repair work. This makes me wonder whether spending $65 will solve anything except make your wallet lighter.
