In Reply to: Petri cameras, info needed posted by Karen on August 19, 2000 at 16:46:28:
: Just bought at estate sale, know nothing about it other than its 35mm; the lens states No 454441 and that above Petri I think it is a F1. Could anyone give me an approx. worth, how to get a manual, good place to start for some lenses. Is it a good camera or do you hate it? I want to use it for black and white mostly. If you have any hints most welcome.
Petri cameras were manufactured by the Kuribayashi-Petri Company of Japan. Value can be approximately determined by finding a copy of McBroom Blue Book Price Guide to Modern Cameras, although I believe most Petri cameras are not particularly valuable. I don't find any reference to a Petri F1, but Petri did make an FT model (worth $20-$40.) Petri cameras seem to have been mostly made in the 1960's, meaning lenses for the camera would be screw mount. I would not invest a lot of money in accessories for a camera which is likely more than 30 years old. In the first place, the light meter is probably dead.

Petri cameras are old but there is a market for them with bayonet lens and a lot of accessories, just look at eBay. I use Petri as well as Nikon and I really like shooting with the old Petris, I get a lot of good pics with them. I have a FA-1 as well as a V6 but the main problems I have seen from use and watching what's on eBay is the shutters stick and the little cover plate on the film advance comes off a lot. Try a roll of film in it, you don't have a lot to lose and you might find that you enjoy the feel of a nostalgic camera.

I have a Petri FT bought in the 60s, still use as a back up for my Canon system. It uses bayonet mount lens and with a adaptor screw mount of the Pentax type. The meter is a cds type still works.

I have the adapter for screw mount lens so I bought a couple to use with my Petri cameras but it seems that theres not enough threads on the lens to use them. Did you ever have this problem and is there another adapter to use or what? Unless you're a pro Petri's are good for Black & White and I have a few shots the pros might like... Mike Gullette
