Hi,
I've been collecting series e lenses and just purchased the 100mm model in mint condition and takes reasonable photo's. I also have the 28 and 50mm. My question is as follows: I noticed that in photo's of these lenses on web sites and on the 28 and 50mm of mine they all have a silver f stop ring. The 100mm that I have does not, it's just black. Does any one know if certain models were made like this or was this one modified/repaird, ect..? And yes, it does say series e around the glass on the front.
Thanks, Randy

Randy,
The "E" series of Nikkor lenses was a kind of low-budget alternative that Nikon offered for a while. They're not bad, but weren't designed for a lot of knocking about. None of the "E" optics had a chrome ring, and I believe they were plastic-bodied. I suspect you have the rather better-built regular metal AI Nikkor lenses, all of which have that lovely chromed ring on them. Nikonians -- The Friendly Nikon Users Community
