: Decades ago when I was in college I bought a Canon AE1 and I still use it. What does "FD" mean, I forgot. Is the AE1 an FD? Also, if I wanted to buy a teleconverter or telephoto lens, do they still make them for the AE1? Aftermarket?

The Canon AE-1 was first introduced in 1976 and production ceased in the mid-1980's. FD refers to the lens mount which was used on manual focus Canon cameras for almost 20 years. Many Canon cameras used FD mount lenses, including the Canon AE-1, Canon A-1, all Canon F-1's, Canon FTb, and the Canon T Series, the T-70, T-80 and T-90. I don't believe anyone manufactures FD mount lenses, but there are millions of used Canon FD lenses available, including those made by aftermarket companies like Tamron, Tokina, Vivitar and others.
