I'm researching cost effective ways to start up a business in photo processing. I need help in first finding competitive costs to decide if I can even afford to start this business. I would like to know what the costs are for minilabs to either own, rent, or lease such equipment. Have any advice?

First analyze your local community for whether another minilab is needed. Many places in the US are already oversaturated with minilabs - I have three within one mile of my house and only one of them has any volume (the cheapest one, of course.) Contact Qualex (Kodak's processing division) because they maintain and support many minilabs in the US; I'm sure they are even the source of the actual equipment. Minilabs cost well over $100,000 so you should look at lease options. Another resource would be contacting the Photo Marketing Association and see what research they have available for prospective minilab owners. http://www.pmai.org
