: Is there a difference in shutter between the older and the newer Pentax k-1000 cameras? Mine has a cloth shutter and moves upward and downward. I believe it is one of the older ones because it had "Asahi Optical Company" or something written on the side and it has a metal film advance lever instead of a plastic one. If you know anything, please leave a reply. Thanks
Generally focal plane shutters which move from left to right have a flash synchronization speed of 1/60 of a second while focal plane shutters which move vertically have a flash synchronization speed of 1/125 of a second. There were many changes made to the Pentax K-1000 during the nearly 20 years it was manufactured. Most focal plane shutters are made of black cloth; usually metal shutters are only found on top-of-the-line cameras. I have no idea whether your camera was an older or newer Pentax K-1000, but if the flash synch speed is 1/125 of a second, I'd say newer.
