I would appreciate feedback from those of you who own this camera. I cannot find one in the city where I live, but from the specs & price info I have received, I would like to consider it for my first SLR. Thank you.

One of the major magazines (either Peterson's Photographic or Pop Photography) just called the SA-5 one of their favorite cameras of 1999. You can probably find the magazine at a bookstore and read about it.

Someone posted a good review of the SA-5 on my site, also. The reason they liked it was that they felt they got the same quality and features as other companies for less money.

There is the issue of being limited to buying only Sigma lenses and flashes. What you really need to decide is whether you're comfortable with Sigma lens quality. Sigma has advertised that they've won awards for their optics in Europe. However, I have heard complaints about the build quality of the lenses. Build quality and optics are two seperate things. The optics of a lens might be great, but if the autofocus mechanics quit working the optical quality doesn't do you much good. So the lenses and build quality are the things to look into.

Good luck,

John Shafer

I'm going to wait....

for the info I've requested from Sigma. In the meantime, I will check out other cameras. Thanks for your input John--I checked out your site and it was helpful.

Sigma has never been able to make much of a dent in the US camera market. Most web links for dealers carrying Sigma cameras are in the United Kingdom and Europe. However Sigma does have a US site and a dealer locator by state and by zip code. Go to Sigma, Sigma Corporation of America.

If I understand the Sigma tech service comments, many dealers do not carry Sigma cameras because the hot sellers are Canon and Nikon. The dealers want big time roll over in stock, so they hesitate on carrying Sigma cameras (Sigma isn't spending the $$ in advertising their camera?)
