: : Hi! Anyone have an estimate of what you would pay
: : for a Canon A-1 that comes with 5 Canon lenses (no specs yet, but 50mm, 2 macro, 2 zoom)? All said to be in excellent condition.

: : Much obliged.

: Rose,
: My second income is from the purchase and resale of used camera equipment. From experience, without being able to examine the items upfront I wouldn't pay more than $50.00 for all of it. I'm serious. You need to back up 10 paces and take the whole scene in. 2 macro and 2 zoom means that you could end up with 4 identical length lenses but 2 of them have close focus capability! That's what macro means. Doesn't mean it is a wide angle lens. Excellent condition to some people means that the shutter fires when you press the button. I have a whole spare bedroom full cameras in "excellent" condition that I would be embarassed to sell, a half dozen of them Canon A-1's! They need foam, they need shutter work, they have broken battery doors. But all the people told me they were in excellent condition before I drove to their homes to look at them.

: Let me ask you this, when you got all this stuff in the mail, would you be able to tell if it was in exc. condition? Do you know how to inspect a lens? What should the shutter sound like? What kind of feel should the wind lever have? How do you tell if the bayonet mount on the camera is worn out? What about the lens barrel being loose, how do you check for that?

: This outfit may very well be in choice condition. I am just trying to get you to be an aware consumer. Lots of stuff in the camera bag doesn't make it a good deal.
