I'm borrowing a vivitar 2800 flash b/c my 285 is inconsistent right now, but does anyone know exactly how to use the slider knob to set the flash to the proper ISO you are using? What drives my curiosity is that on the slider knob itself, there is a white SLASH that lines up with the dashes that correspond to ISO settings. But there is also a white DOT just to the left of the knob that moves as you move slider knob that will line up with the ISO settings directly to the left if what the white SLASH lines up to. So if the SLASH is set to ISO 200 perfectly in line, then the DOT is in line with ISO 400. Which is the right setting, say if I were using 400 film?

Sorry I didn't see your question until today. If it's not too late here goes...the white dot is for when you are using a diffuser(usually supplied along with coloured panels for the 2800 flash). As you can now determine, the diffuser will cut the output by 1 f-stop.eg for 400 asa,the slash mark on the slider indicates auto on blue at f8,or red at f4.Now when you put the diffuser on,slide the dot to the 400 asa position and you will get, auto blue at f5.6,and red at f2.8.Hope this helps.Manuel
