: This question has probably been asked here at this board before but I need the advise. I've read very good reviews for the new Rebel and some so-so for the Nikon but need other opinions.
: Thank you in advance

The Nikon N60 has been under-rated because of a silly thing:
it does not have an ISO adjustment, you have to use DX indexed
film always. Otherwise it is a great starters camera.
Canon has made an excellent marketing case for their products and
they are good cameras.
Try them both, my recommendation if I may is go for the Nikon. No
way to go wrong here.
A person that payed attention to my advice just started her own
page at: Pam's
Galleria and had posted her first pictures with it. Take a
peek.
Have a great time.
