:The LOMO KOMPAKT AVTOMAT is a russian camera that :has a few followers. I would not expect much from :this camera. There are two models, one
:8mm, one 35mm, both have 40mm lenses f/4 and :shutter speeds up to 1/250 of a sec. The first one :sells for about US$15, and the second for less, :$12 You can visit the site of a very artistic :photographer that also reveals the low quality of :the lens of the Lomos toy plastic camera. at:

You got it a little mixed up. The two Lomo cameras you describe are different from the LOMO KOMPAKT AVTOMAT, which is a ridiculously overhyped and overpriced($150+) scale focusing point and shoot.

:It would be like buying a Zenit or a Kiev camera. :Not high optics. Maybe to have some fun. But, if a :picture is worth taking, why not with the best :tools you
:can afford?
:But then, that is my personal opinion, and :although there is very little chance I could be :wrong on this, I can always be ......

I've never used a LOMO KOMPAKT AVTOMAT or a Lomo 35, but I can tell you that the Lomo 8m is quite a remarkable fully manual camera with a surprizingly sharp glass lens. Easily worth the ~$15 I paid for it. And a real creative breath of fresh air in this age of expensive auto-everything cameras.

: A recent market survey showed that the young consumer market (high school) liked disposable and toy cameras a lot. The immediate reaction was the lomo craze into the US.
: Marketing is a wonderful tool that has made a lousy camera into an artist's tool. Great!
: At least we will have more people taking pictures, and eventually, maybe, interested in true photography.

C'mon, now. Don't be such a snob. A lot of those Lomo shots are about as true photography as it gets.
