First of all you have a good camera.
It is a medium format 6X6 (60mm X 60mm) negative and its focusing
screen follows those proportions.
Sometimes, some old pros used to tape the viewfinder to make the
most of the negative whn composing a picture, but with a printing
size in mind.
For example: 5X7 (0.714/1), 6X8 (0.75/1), 8X10 (0.8X1), 11X14
(0.786/1), so they reduced the viewfinders proportions
accordingly.
I think I used it once but I found that I had a good eye for
composition so there was no need to do it.
And sometimes, it was even better to print the image I got
horizontally rather than vertically, after I got it.
So ........ any way, that is what the tapeing was used for.
