I believe you must be referring to the Nikon N2020 (or F501 in
Europe and Asia).
This camera came to market in 1986. It was the very first AF
camera if I recall correctly. I purchased one immediatly and
serve its purpose very well. Although very compact, it still has
a solid metal chasis for the body. It was at the time of the
early stage of Auto Focus development and as a consequence it
focusing system was rated as 'slow' by the most demanding press
photographers who did not understand the advent of 'consumer'
market, i.e. those who wanted a Nikon but at moderate prices,
therefore it had a smaller body and without some sophiscated
features, since there was no room or space for them.
It was for for my son, an active adolescent at the time and if it
withstood that period, I can atest to the fact that the camera is
sturdy, reliable, rugged and very easy to operate. Used, in
excellent condition, this cameras are sold currently for about
$200.
