: I'm after some information regarding suitable cameras for taking aerial photographs, vertically, through a whole in the floor of a plane. I need to see fairly acurate detail on the ground, but I want the photos to take in a large enough area so they can be easily mosaiced.
: I would also prefer something easy to use ie an automatic, as the photos will need to be taken in relatively quick succession. We are going to be needing it for scientific purposes - photographing soil erosion. I am not a photographer and do not have a great deal of time in which to learn how to use the camera, so I need something easy and reliable.
: Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.
: Yours sincerely

Dear Jo:
Why dont you save yourself a lot of grief and ask the true
experts, that is, those alerady in this business, for example,
the US Department of the Interior has a Department of Geological
Survey or USGS and their many business partners.
You may even find that the pictures you are looing for are
already been taken at reasonable time periods to detect past soil
erosion. Try:

As for easy and reliable just remember that those are subjective
terms. You should entertain the idea that at least you must find
the time to read the manual.
If a had no reference sites I would go for a Hasselblad camera to
do the job, it was the camera NASA used for space and planetary
surveying.
Good luck
