In Reply to: problem with Beseler enlarger not level posted by marilee lovit on September 10, 1999 at 05:28:07:
: I have a Beseler 23C-II-XL and print from 120 film (2 and
1/4 inch square negatives). I am using the correct lens and
elevation. But my prints are not uniformly in sharp focus,
instead are sharper on one side or the other. The "vertical
adjustment screw" seems to have no effect on this problem.
How can I get all parts of my enlarger perfectly level?
Response:
I do remember that when making big enlargements, if the film
holder was not a glass holder, but an open square holder, any
minimal curvature on the film would show as greatly out of focus.
To reduce this, I did focus and adjust the enlarger with a test
negative, so that the actnegative from which I wanted to print
would have as little exposure to the light heat from the lamp as
possible, therefore reducing any unwanted curvature on it.
In summary, if you can get a glass holder.
If not, keep the negative and lamp as cool as possible.
If this does not resolve the problem, then there is a
missalignement in the horizontal planes (negative - paper),.....
take it to the shop.
