: I am new at this stuff and had a question about lenses- what is the deal with all the k, s screw and other mounts- how do I figure out what fits my camera?
Response:
Dear Angela:
The lenses on a camera are attached to the body via a mount; in
some cameras it is via a flange, in others via a screw; most
camera brands have a unique mount for propietory rights.
Several lenses manufacturers provide lenses with different
mounts, such as Tamron, Soligor, Sigma and Vivitar (which I have
not seen lately), and they are an alternative source for lenses
since they are usually less expensive than those made by (or for)
the camera manufactures (although a large argument on its quality
can be made).
So when buying a lens for a Pentax you have to specify:
"With a Pentax mount" or "For Pentax".
In any event, check your manual because as time passes by there
are changes in the mounts (for additional functions) depending on
the model.
