Keith,
I think you can probably find a decent used light meter at Kenmore Camera or a low-end new meter at Warshall's on First Avenue in downtown Seattle. I'd get on the phone and make some calls. On the used meter, make sure it comes with a warranty against defects. Test it out in low, medium and bright light situations, because malfunctioning and out-of-calibration meters can work perfectly fine at one light level but be totally incorrect at a different light level. If you have a manual camera, you can use its light meter to determine the aperture and shutter speed for your stereo camera.
