: What is ilfachrome? Is it the standard photgraphic development technique. If so, how does it work? Basics, please!
Ilfochrome is the current name for the type R paper which used to be called Cibachrome. When Ciba-Geigy sold Ilford about ten years ago, part of the deal required Ilford to remove the Ciba name from the most well known Ilford product made. Ilfochrome, also called Ilfochrome Classic is used for making brilliant color prints directly from color slides. It has substantial longevity, much better than the type C paper used to make color prints from color negatives, and the type R papers made by Kodak, Fuji, Afga, etc.
Unfortunately because Ilfochrome prints cost more, the use of the paper has declined and more than a few photo labs don't offer Ilfochrome type R prints.
