Closed Photo Labs, Northern California
A few years ago we decided to stop removing out-of-business camera stores from the ACE Index. Instead we've removed inactive links, identified a retailer as closed and added what we can learn about each company's demise. Now we are doing this for closed photo labs. This makes ACE a more useful resource, and offsets the misinformation spread by other online business directories which continue to provide addresses and telephone numbers for non-existent companies. It also prevents domain speculators benefitting from web traffic intended for an out-of-business company. Photo labs listed below have closed their doors forever.
Closed their doors in 2010 after forty years in business. Calypso owner Joe Levine recommends West Coast Imaging, a specialty photo lab catering to fine art photographers located in Oakhurst, California. Calypso offered digital imaging services, B&W, C-41 and E-6 film processing. Ilfochrome prints. Digital film output, Lightjet 5000 prints, large format inkjet printing, scanning, retouching, presentation services. Former clients included Galen Rowell, Bill Atkinson, Harvey Lloyd, trade show companies and national corporations.
Out of business, domain name now belongs to home health care and hospice company. Camellia Color offered conventional lab services plus long roll processing, portrait and prom packages. digital film output, Photo CD transfers and Portfolio CDs. Supported Kodak's Flashpix format.
Out of business. Website gone, published phone numbers inactive. Dan and Darcy Davis served Northern California for more than 13 years with C-41, E-6, and b/w processing, type R and C prints, dupes, photo restoration, scanning of prints, slides, negatives, and film. 8x10 dye sublimation prints.
Bad news business. Club Photo went out of business in March 2007; thousands of members' photos stored online were permanently lost. An early pioneer in online photofinishing, photo consumers could upload digital images or mail in 35mm for processing. Company offered color prints and reprints, personalized photo gifts, poster prints, designer picture frames, photos transferred to CD, online photo sharing and more. Brief company history: Club Photo acquired well-known mail order photofinisher Signature Color of Austin, Texas in February 2000. Photo TLC acquired Club Photo in January 2006. Venture capitalists behind Photo TLC shut down the company without advance notice in March 2007.
