Photography Mailing Lists
Mailing lists focus on specific aspects of photography -- including history, press photographers, photography as art, alternative processes, stock photography, 3-D photography, photojournalism, underwater photography, astro photography; lists exist for all major brands of cameras, for subminiature to large format owners, for digital equipment users, users of Photo CD, users of PhotoShop, for photo educators, lists in Spanish, Portuguese, Greek, etc.

There are two kinds of lists, moderated and non-moderated. Messages to a moderated list are first read by the moderator for relevance before being posted to the group; messages sent to a non-moderated list are received by all members of the group and may be off-topic, emotional, and occasionally not well-thought out. Some photographers find moderated lists to be dry and lifeless while others appreciate the lack of "noise." In all cases, however, you should remember the list owner is donating a significant amount of time to further knowledge about a particular area of photography.

Visit Professor Andrew Davidhazy's comprehensive list of mailing lists at the Rochester Institute of Technology. If you live, eat and breathe photography then perhaps joining a mailing list is for you. Here are six mailing lists with web homes.
