Perhaps the batteries the man tried at the camera store were no good; to be sure you should try some brand-new ones yourself. If the camera still won't work then something else is wrong. Don't be surprised if it doesn't work even though no one has touched it; extended inaction is the absolute worst thing for a camera. The XR-P is an excellent camera, by the way, at least in my opinion. Hope this helps.
Thanks Donnie, I'm very grateful for your answer. I did not want to buy new batteries, if the camera is broken, but now I will try.
